Research In Motion is planning a next-generation version of its touchscreen BlackBerry Storm smartphone as part of a continuing push into the retail market, its co-CEO said on Monday.
"We see this very large and untapped consumer market," Jim Balsillie said during a presentation to analysts and investors, adding that more than half of RIM's 25 million subscribers now fall into the non-corporate category....

According to a source very close to the issue, Verizon has given the go for RIM to release the BlackBerry Storm 2 in September of this year. The followup to the groundbreaking Storm that was released last year as the first touchscreen Blackberry, SlashGear has been told that the new Storm 2 addresses one of the biggest criticisms of the first smartphone and of Verizon devices in general, in that it will support WiFi....

Skype, the Internet telephone unit of eBay Inc, is planning to launch its service for iPhone users on Tuesday and for BlackBerry in May as part of its effort to expand beyond desktop computers.

First there was “Pluto,” then were was “Magnum,” but now we’re talkin’ about something totally different — Gemini. What’s Gemini you ask? From what we’ve been told, the working model number is 9300, so that’s BlackBerry 9300. As you can imagine, the 9xxx line of BlackBerry devices is for 3G handsets and the Gemini won’t break that tradition. We’re told to think of this as the BlackBerry Curve “3G”....

Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion Ltd. have high hopes for the BlackBerry Storm, which they spent nearly two years developing as their big response to Apple Inc.'s iPhone.
But despite a marketing campaign that cost more than $100 million, the smart phone has gotten off to a bumpy start. Some early buyers have complained about technical bugs with RIM's first touch screen BlackBerry, although others say most new gadgets have problems that need to be ironed out....
